Giuseppe-Sciumè
PROFESSOR

Giuseppe Sciumè

Giuseppe Sciumè is an Associate Professor and Group Leader at the Department of Molecular Medicine, Sapienza University of Rome, and at the Pasteur Institute Italy – Cenci-Bolognetti Foundation, where he leads the Transcriptional Regulation Laboratory.
BASED AT:
Sapienza University of Rome

Bio and Carreer

He earned his Ph.D. in Immunological Sciences in 2010 from Sapienza University of Rome, conducting his doctoral research in the laboratory of Angela Santoni. His work focused on the role of chemokines in modulating the activity of natural killer (NK) cells and tumor cells. He then joined the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of John O’Shea (NIAMS, 2010–2016). There, his research centered on the transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate the differentiation and activation of NK cells and other innate lymphocytes.

After a period as a senior scientist, he returned to Sapienza University in 2019 as a Group Leader. His current research investigates the roles of STAT proteins and other transcription factors in controlling NK and ILC effector functions in mouse models of intestinal inflammation and cancer.

Dr. Sciumè’s laboratory is supported by the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC), the Pasteur Institute (France), and the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
