Welcome to Monopolithe city of a hundred "contrade"
Located along the stunning Adriatic coastline of Puglia, Monopoli is a city of authentic charm, where historical heritage blends seamlessly with the beauty of the Mediterranean landscape. Its old town, enclosed by ancient walls, opens onto a lively harbor and captivating Baroque architecture, while the surrounding countryside unfolds across ninety-nine rural districts—“contrade”—a testament to the area's deep-rooted agricultural and cultural traditions. A place that combines hospitality, identity, and beauty: the ideal setting for a congress that aims to leave a lasting impression.
A City of Charm, History, and Natural Wonders
Monopoli offers a unique blend of coastal charm, history, and tradition. Its old port, with colorful fishing boats and a lively waterfront, reflects the city’s deep maritime roots. Just a short walk away, the Cathedral of Maria Santissima della Madia stands with its elegant Baroque façade and centuries of devotion. The historic center invites you to explore a maze of narrow alleys, small squares, and whitewashed buildings that tell stories of the past. Not far from the city, the famous Castellana Caves reveal a hidden underground world of stunning rock formations—an ideal excursion to complete the Monopoli experience.
Congress Venue
Teatro Radar
Teatro Radar is an architectural gem that was reopened in Monopoli after more than 30 years of abandonment. Serving as a theatre, cinema, and auditorium, the Radar was built around 1938– 1939 during the Fascist era, originally conceived as a hotel owned by the Camicia family. Anselmo Camicia, who owned the adjacent villa, commissioned engineer Giambattista Giannoccaro to design the building in pure Fascist style: rounded and imposing, it featured two halls—one used for theatrical and film performances, and the other as hotel space, taking advantage of its proximity to the train station.
Accommodation
Since Monopoli is a small and charming town rather than a city with large hotel facilities, there is no accommodation partnered with the Congress. However, the town offers a wide range of welcoming B&Bs, apartments and studios, which you can easily book through platforms such as Booking.com, according to your needs and preferences.
For the most enjoyable stay, we suggest staying in the historic center of Monopoli, where you will be surrounded by its characteristic atmosphere and within a 10–15 minute walk from the venue (Teatro Radar). Alternatively, there are also several pleasant apartments available in the immediate surroundings of the theater.
